Bangladesh ends Commonwealth Games campaign empty-handed

The curtain will fall on the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on August 8, but the Bangladesh contingent ended their campaign in the ongoing games empty-handed on Friday.

 Bangladesh participated in two events – table tennis and wrestling – on that day.

In table tennis, Bangladesh pair Ramhimlian Bawm and Mohutasin Ahmed Ridoy lost to the Indian pair Sharath Kamal Achanta and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran by 0-3 sets in the men’s doubles round of 16 while Bangladesh pair Sadia Rahman Mou and Sonam Sultana gave a walkover to their English opponents in the women’s doubles round of 32.

In wrestling, Bangladesh’s Liton Biswas lost to Jamaican Aaron Johnson by 11-0 points in the men’s freestyle 125kg round of 8 final and Abdur Roshid Hawladar lost to Sierra Leone’s Kassegbama Sheku by 4-0 points in the men’s freestyle 86kg round of 8 final.

Bangladesh’s Dola Khatun lost to Cameroon’s Etane Ngolle Berthe Emilienne by 0-10 points in the women’s freestyle 62kg quarterfinal and Tithy Roy lost to Tonga’s Cocker Lemalie Tiger Lily 0-10 points in the women’s freestyle 68kg quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh participated in seven events of this multi-disciplinary extravaganza.
