Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Friday paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal on the occasion of his 73rd birth anniversary.  

Capt Sheikh Kamal had been assassinated along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his families on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.

The High Commission observed the birth anniversary with due solemnity. Marking the day, officers and staff of the mission led by Acting High Commissioner Md Nural Islam placed a wreath at his portrait at the chancery building.

The high commissioner later presided over a discussion meeting on the life and works of Sheikh Kamal at the chancery’s Bangabandhu Conference Hall.

In his speech, Nural Islam relived his memories with Sheikh Kamal and expressed his admiration to him for his exceptional capacity to organise sports, arts and music after the War of Liberation in 1971. He also recalled Sheikh Kamal’s role in the liberation war when he acted as the ADC of Commander-in-Chief Gen. MAG Osmani.

Nural Islam also said Sheikh Kamal was an idol of the young people who got all his attributes from his family and these attributes were reflected in his personal, social and cultural life.

At the meeting, Minister (Press) Shaban Mahmood read out the message of honourable President Md Abdul Hamid and Mohd. Rashedul Amin, Minister (Economy), read out the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s message.

Selim Md Jahangir, Minister (Consular) at the mission, also spoke on the occasion while Md Zakaria Bin Amjad, Second Secretary, conducted the meeting.

A documentary on the life of Sheikh Kamal was also screened and a special Munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for him and his family members.
