Bangladesh A will face their West Indies counterparts during the opening four-day match of the two-match series at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia today.

It will be the first time in almost three years that Bangladesh A team will play a series against a foreign nation.

The last time they took part in a series was back in September, 2019 when they toured Sri Lanka to play two unofficial Tests and three unofficial ODIs and it was also the last series Bangladesh A team played.

Apart from taking part in the two four-day matches, the Bangladesh A team will also play three one-day matches.

The second four-day match will be held on August 10-13 while the three 50-over matches will be played on August 16, 18 and 20 respectively, all at the same venue.

The West Indies tour will be crucial for a lot of national discarded cricketers such as Mohammad Mithun, Shadman Islam, Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Naim and Sabbir Rahman (the last three are part of the one-day side), who will be eyeing to regain their national team spots by performing well in the series.

“I think we have prepared well for the series. If the boys can execute them well in the field, we are hopeful to do well in the series,” head coach Mizanur Rahman said on Tuesday while conducting their second day’s practice session in St Lucia.

Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies named wicketkeeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva as the skipper for both four-day and one-day series against Bangladesh A.

The squads feature several players with international experience as well as others who graduated from the CWI Rising Stars U19 and CWI Emerging Players teams.
