The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) began selling four essential items at a subsidised rate among low-income families through its dealers on Tuesday in a bid to ease inflationary burden.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the campaign at a shop of TCB dealer in the city.
The TCB programme allows a cardholder to buy two liters of soybean oil at Tk 110 per liter, two kgs of lentil at Tk 65 per kg, one kg sugar at Tk 55 and two kgs of onion at Tk 20 per kg at a time.
However, onion is selling only in city corporation areas and in those districts having regional offices of TCB.
In his speech, Tipu said the government will continue the sale of TCB products at subsidised prices among the 10 million families.
In the mourning month of August, TCB has started selling sugar, lentil, soybean oil and onion in fixed quantities at fixed prices, he added.
