Bangladesh to begin Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan on Aug 30

Bangladesh were drawn in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in UAE from August 27 to September 11.

Reigning champions India and Pakistan were drawn in Group A while they would be joined by a qualifying team - either UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong Kong – in the T20 tournament.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 4 while the top two sides from the Super 4 stage will play in the final in Dubai.

The Asian Cricket Council announced the groupings and fixtures of the competition on Tuesday.

Bangladesh will begin their tournament campaign against Afghanistan on August 30 in Sharjah before they face Sri Lanka in the last group match on September 1 in Dubai.

The much-awaited India Vs Pakistan encounter will take place on August 28 in Dubai while Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan in the opening match of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the qualifying round matches to determine the sixth team will begin on August 20 in Oman.

Bangladesh are the reigning runners-up side in the tournament as in 2018, they lost to India by three wickets in a nail-biting final.

The tournament was initially scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka but due to the current political unrest situation, it moved to UAE although Sri Lanka remained as the host side.
