Two more suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu were placed on two-day remand on Monday after arresting them from the capital’s Motijheel area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Shahidul Islam passed the order.
Yasin Shikder, inspector (DB Motijheel) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed this.
With the latest arrests, the total number of suspects arrested so far has risen to 22.
Meanwhile, Chief of DMP’s DB Unit Harun-Or-Rashid told reporters that they arrested the duo as per the information extracted from the other suspects who have already been arrested.
No innocent people were arrested over the murder case, said Harun at a press briefing at DMP media centre.
Four suspects—Jatiya Party (JP) local leader Juber Alam Khan Robin, former local Chhatra League leader Mahbubur Rahman Titu, Awami League leader Arifur Rahman Sohel and former Joint General Secretary of Motijheel Thana Unit of Chhatra League Mohammad Khairul—were arrested on Saturday night.
Farhana Islam Doly, the wife of Tipu, filed a murder case against unknown people at Shahjahanpur Police Station, but the family members of the college girl did not lodge any case.
