Govt gives seeds, fertilisers to flood-hit farmers

The government distributed seeds and fertilisers worth Tk 11 crore to 1.85 lakh farmers at free of cost in 17 districts affected by the recent devastating floods.

Paddy seeds of Aman variety and fertilisers were distributed among the farmers in three phases, said a press release.

In the first phase, a total of 94,000 farmers got Aman seeds and fertilisers worth about Tk 5.88 crore.

A total of 700 farmers of the four most affected districts - Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj got Aman seeds and fertilisers worth about Tk 3.5 lakh in the second phase.

In the third phase, implementation of rehabilitation assistance worth Tk 5 crore to 90,000 farmers and the work of providing each of them 5 kilogram (kg) of high-yielding Aman seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP fertilisers are underway.

Besides, providing early winter vegetable seed assistance to the affected farmers to compensate for the damages caused by the floods is also under process.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief  estimated that crops worth Tk1,258.54 crore were totally damaged in the floods that recently hit the country.
