BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the Awami League government to hand over power to a non-party government.

“Awami League's downfall bell has started ringing. Now electricity, then fuel, and then the reserve are running out, commodity prices skyrocket, so now there is no more talk. There is only one point when will Sheikh Hasina go,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the statement while addressing a rally arranged by the party’s Dhaka north city unit in protest against the electricity crisis, in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, “Now no time is left, we urged the people to push the government to ensure its fall. Come lets we awake people and ensure fall of this fascist government,” he added.

He also asked the government to resign  and hand over power to a non-party government, form the parliament and arrange the next parliament election under a new election commission to elect a government with the people’s representative.

With the rally, BNP started staging its three-day demonstration across the country to protest against the ongoing load shedding and mismanagement in the power and energy sector.

As part of the programme, BNP’s Dhaka south city unit will stage demo on July 30.
