The high-flying Bangladesh U-20 team will take on Maldives in their third match of the ongoing SAFF U-20 Championship at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India today with an aim to confirm their spot in the final.
Bangladesh started their campaign by beating Sri Lanka by a 1-0 margin on Monday and they maintained the winning form by defeating the hosts and defending champions India by 2-1 goals on Wednesday.
If they can clinch a victory against Maldives today, they will all but confirm their final berth with one match to spare.
But Bangladesh will need an India draw or defeat, who will face Sri Lanka in the day’s first game, to confirm their place in the final.
Nepal also collected six points from two matches after beating Maldives by 4-0 goals and Sri Lanka by 3-0 goals and they are sharing the top place with Bangladesh.
“Our plan was to move ahead match by match, so we are able to earn six points from two matches. Now our target is to enter into the final,” Bangladesh captain cum defender Tanvir Hossain said on Thursday.
“The match against Maldives is very important for us. We will try to win the game tomorrow,” he said.
