Ferdausi Rahman, Abdul Hadi receive ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’

Ekushey Padak-winning singers Ferdausi Rahman and Syed Abdul Hadi have received ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ for 2020 and 2021 respectively.

The award ceremony was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday on the eve of Feroza Begum’s 92nd birth anniversary.

DU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhteruzzaman handed over the awards to the artistes as the chief guest while DU Arts Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Abdul Bashir, Music Department Chairman Professor Dr. Debproshad Dawn attended the programme as the special guests. 

ACI Foundation Chairman and the donor of the ‘Feroza Begum Trust Fund’ M. Anis Ud Dowla delivered a welcome speech on the occasion with DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration) and the Chairman of ‘Feroza Begum Trust Fund’ Professor Dr. Muhammad Samad in the chair. 

Feroza Begum was a legendary Nazrul Geeti Singer. 

Dhaka University introduced ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ in 2016 to honour the accomplished artistes of the country and to encourage the new generation to practice pure native music every year.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this event could not take place in 2020 and 2021. 

 It is mentionable that singer Sabina Yasmin, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Runa Laila, and Farida Parveen were awarded this prestigious award in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

 Moreover, the student in the music department of the University of Dhaka, who achieved the highest CGPA, is awarded a Gold Medal every year from Feroza Begum Trust Fund at the convocation of the University.
