3 arrested over SUST student murder

The agitating students of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet on Tuesday gave 24 hours to arrest the criminals involved in the murder of Bulbul Ahmed and bring them under law.

They put the ultimatum at a human chain formed on the university premises in the morning.

The protesters also demanded compensation for the deceased family, ensuring security on the campus and declaration of the killing spot as the Bulbul Chattar.

Later, the students brought out a procession and blocked the Dhaka-Sunamganj road.

Meanwhile, police detained three suspects for interrogation in connation with the incident, said Jalalabad Police Station’s Officer-In-Charge (OC) Nazmul Huda Khan. Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet BM Ashraf Ali Taher said they were primarily interrogating three suspects.

Police were trying to detain drug addicts around the campus, he said.

Bulbul Ahmed, a third-year student of the Public Administration Department of the university, was stabbed to death on the campus on Monday evening.

Following the incident, SUST Registrar Mohd Ishfaqul Hussain filed a case accusing unknown people with Jalalabad Police Station on Monday night.

The body of Bulbul was taken to his village home at Nandipara in Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Tuesday and buried beside his father’s grave there.

Earlier, the postmortem of Bulbul’s body was carried out at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
