The government will conduct feasibility study to explore 625m tonnes of iron ore prospect, a rock from which iron can be profitably extracted, at Hakimpur in Dinajpur.
State-owned Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) and UK-based DMT Consulting Limited signedan agreement to conduct the preliminary study on Monday in this regard.
According to Petrobangla, the Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB)discovered the Iron Ore between 426-548 meters’ depth from surface of earth at five square kilometers areas at Hakimpur in Dinajpur recently.
Petrobangla chairman Nazmul Ahsan and other senior officials concerned attended the singing ceremony.
Nazmul Ahsan told the Daily Sun that they would expect to get at least 50 percent of Iron Ore from the reserve of 625 million tonnes. He said the thickness of the structure is 68 meters.
As per the deal, the DMT Consulting Limited will conduct the study under a project at a cost of Tk 25 crore, styled as “Preliminary Study for Development of Alihat Iron Ore Deposit at Hakimpur in Dinajpur, Bangladesh.” within 12 months.
