Two held with fake cigarettes in Pabna

PABNA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) seized a huge quantity of fake cigarettes at Ishwardi in Pabna district on Sunday.

Around 111,000 fake Derby cigarettes have been seized at Ishwardi in Pabna by the local authorities. Two cartons of printed labels and 32 bundles of fake band-rolls were also found in the factory. In this connection, police have arrested 2 perpetrators identified as Md Faruk Hossain, 34 and Md Masud Rana, 38.

On a tip-off, on Friday evening, a team of Rapid Action Battalion RAB-12 led by its commander in-charge Kishore Roy raided at a tin-shed building adjacent to Tetul Tola tobacco factory in Ishwardi municipality area. 

RAB official says in primary interrogation, the arrested confessed their crimes and said they had been manufacturing such illegal products for a long.

Later, with the assistance of RAB, the security officer of British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh, Kazi Mortuza Reza, lodged a case at Ishwardi police station alleging three persons including the arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in manufacturing Derby cigarette illegally using fake labels and band-rolls. Police are looking for a fugitive one.
