Residents urge authorities to stop dumping waste into Chandona Barasia River

FARIDPUR: Locals formed a human chain on Thursday morning on the two banks of the Chandona Barasia River in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur protesting river pollution allegedly by a factory.

More than 400 people from all walks of life joined the protest programme.

Locals alleged that the waste of many auto rice mills is polluting the water of the Chandona Barasia River for long days by dumping waste into the river. The mills were set up defying the Environmental Law, locals said.

Contacted, Faridpur DoE deputy director MH Rashed said he will take action after getting a written complaint in this regard. Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rezaul Karim said he has been informed of the matter verbally by the Moina union parishad chairman. He will take action if he gets written allegation about the matter, added the UNO.
