CHATTOGRAM: Students of Chittagong University (CU) staged a demonstration on Thursday demanding punishment to the culprits involved in harassing a female student sexually.
Sources said the students formed human-chain, brought out protest procession and held rallies at different points including in front of Science Faculty, Bangabandhu Chattar and Shaheed Minar premises.
Mentionable, several female students were harassed on the university campus recently.
On Monday night, a group of five persons intercepted a student and her friend in Hatashar Morr area around 9:30pm.
They forcibly took the girl to a nearby solitary place and filmed her illicit video.
They also beat up her friend as he tried to resist them at that time.
The girl lodged complaint with the university authority and filed case with the concerned Hathazari police station on Tuesday.
As the culprits were not arrested and the new directive issued, the female students took position in front of residence of the university vice chancellor with their four-point demand on Wednesday night.
Later, the university authority and leaders of teachers association assured them of fulfilling their demands.
Their demands included ensuring round-the-clock security for the students, withdrawing time-limit for entering and exiting the halls, forming effective sexual-harassment prevention cell and resignation of the proctorial body and university registrar in case of failing to ensure punishment to the culprits.
