Bangladesh Cricket Board seems to be running out of time to make up their minds regarding their T20 captain for the upcoming three-match series against Zimbabwe.

BCB high-ups are expected to sit with Mahmudullah to talk with him about his future sooner than later as per the instruction of the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, who insisted they will talk with the skipper before taking any decision regarding change in leadership role in the shortest format.

BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told The Daily Sun on Wednesday that he is not in a state to make any comment regarding Mahmudullah but admitted that they will sit with him and others before the tour of Zimbabwe.

“Just wait and see for two days,” Jalal said when his attention was drawn regarding all the speculation that was going around regarding Tigers next T20 captain.

According to media reports, Mahmudullah is expected to be rested for the T20s as BCB’s think tank feels the need for change to the T20 side that played in the West Indies, losing the series on 2-0 margin after the opening game was abandoned due to rain.

Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan name came up as possible replacement of Mahmudullah as T20 skipper but as he will be missing the tour of Zimbabwe for personal reason leadership role could be handed to someone else on interim basis with Nurul Hasan being the top runner for it.

“I am seeing what is coming in the media but I cannot make any comment about it,” Jalal said.

“Even if we don’t sit with everyone we are expected to sit with six to seven players and we are hoping that they will arrive by tomorrow (today),” he said.

“Probably we can sit the day after tomorrow and after that I can say something but at this point I cannot make any comment,” he said, adding that change in captaincy does not depend on him entirely.

“The change in captaincy is a matter of the board and so you have to wait considering this decision will not be taken by me alone,” he said.

Along with Jalal, Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud and chief selector Minhajul Abedin are also expected to be there in the meeting.

Mahmudullah’s form has also been under scrutiny as he has yet to have a major contribution with the bat since the World Cup in the UAE.

It was also learnt that wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be rested from the T20Is in the Zimbabwe series.
