436 homeless families to get houses in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR: A total of 436 landless families will get new houses as gift from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the third phase of the Ashrayan Project-2 in the district. Construction works of the houses, which will be handed over to the beneficiary families by this month, have been completed.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will launch the distribution of the houses with land ownership document and keys to the beneficiary families through a videoconferencing from her Ganabhaban residence on July, 21, 2022,” Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Anwar Hossain Akand said this while conducting a press briefing here on Tuesday.

“At the third phase of Ashrayan Project-2, the government has raised the cost and brought changes in design to make the houses more sustainable and climate-resilient,” he said, adding that now the landless and homeless people will get better quality tin-shed semi-pucca houses on two decimals of land.

Main thrust of the initiative is to improve the standard of living, ensure basic education, health care and skill development on income generating activities of the beneficiary people.

He also said that so far 1,786 houses have been handed over in the first and second phases of the project.

Additional Deputy commissioner (Revenue) Sajiya Parveen, Additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) Maher Nigar, Laxmipur Press Club President Hossain Ahmed Helal, General Secretary Saidul Islam Pabel, among others, were present .

Each of the semi-pucca tin-shed houses, consists of two bedrooms, one kitchen, one toilet, common space and veranda, was built under the project.
