Record boy Imranur withdraws from World Athletics

England-born Bangladeshi sprinter Imranur Rahman withdrew his name from the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2022 after he sustained a groin injury in Oregon, USA on Saturday.

“He (Imranur) sustained an injury in his groin during a warm-up before the main event. The local physio said that the injury is minor so far, but it could grow if he ran,” the Bangladesh Athletics Federation General Secretary Adv Abdur Rakib Montu said.

Earlier, Imranur became the first ever Bangladeshi athlete to reach the main round of the World Athletics Championships after he finished third in the second heat of the men’s 100m preliminary round with 10.47sec timing on Friday. His previous best record in the event was 10.50sec (national record) which he made in the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal 45th National Athletics Competition in January.

“Imranur will compete in two major international competitions – Commonwealth and Islamic Solidarity – in August. So, we decided not to take any risk,” Montu added.
