City Group chairman faces arrest warrant

CHATTOGRAM: A Chattogram court on Thursday framed charges and issued arrest warrant against City Group Chairman and Managing Director (MD) Fazlur Rahman in a case filed by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) for marketing fortified edible oil without adding vitamin ‘A’ as per standard.

Fourth Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam issued the arrest warrant after farming the charges against Fazlur Rahman.

On October 20, 2019, BSTI filed the case as the institution did not find the slandered level of vitamin A in ‘Teer’ and ‘Natural’ brand edible oil produced by the City Group.

BSTI team collected the samples from the ‘VOTT Oil Refinery Limited,’ a concern of the City Group, in the city’s Patenga area.

BSTI Prosecutor Ashraf Uddin Khandaker said the case was filed after examining the samples collected from the factory.

The Vitamin-A found at the samples was less than that of the standard one, he said.
