Date of SSC exams to be announced Sunday

Education Minister Dipu Moni may announce the date of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations of this year at her secretariat office on Sunday.

The minister will brief journalists about the examinations which was postponed due to sudden flood across the northern districts last month, said the education ministry’s public relations officer Abul Khayer.

“The minister will hold a press conference at 1:00 pm on Sunday and talk about SSC and equivalent exams,” he said. The SSC and equivalent examinations were scheduled to start on June 19 and end on July 6.

On April 27, the Inter-Education Board Examination Regulatory Committee announced the schedule for the commencement of examinations. However, considering the flood situation in different districts of the country, the exam was postponed on June 17.

A total of 20,21,868 students were expected to sit the examinations at 3,790 exam centers.  But many students’ books have been damaged in the flood-hit areas. Earlier, the education minister had said that the exams would be held after delivering new books to them.

At a press conference at the secretariat on July 6, she said that no decision had been made on when the exams would be held. They want to give students at least 2 weeks to prepare after giving new books. Some 15,99,711 students will take the examinations under nine general education board while 2,68,495 under Madrasha Board and 1,63,662 students under the Technical Education Board, she said.
