Fire breaks out at Babu Bari Palace in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: A fire broke out at the 200-year-old Babu Bari Palace in Saltha upazila of Faridpur district on Tuesday.

The fire broke out in the morning at a palace room where some jute sticks were stored, and soon spread to few adjacent rooms, said Awlad Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Saltha Police Station.

However, local people managed to douse the flames within minutes. Police suspect some miscreants had set the room on fire.

Babu Bari was used as an ashram for Hindu devotees. But the palace has been lying vacant since the death of Hindu preacher Boidanath Babu in 2014, the last heir of Jamidar Jatindra Nath Singha.

“A probe has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the fire,” said Awlad.
