No Shakib in Zimbabwe tour

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t be available for Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Zimbabwe as well as for the three-match ODI series against West Indies, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official informed on Thursday.

“Shakib won’t be available in the ODIs (in West Indies) as well as in Zimbabwe and he informed us about it earlier,” BCB Cricket Operation Chairman Jalal Yunus told The Daily Sun.

“As he (Shakib) confirmed his unavailability, we sat with the selection panel regarding the formation of the team.  Most of the other senior players are available and they want to play,” he added.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play three ODIs against West Indies on July 10, 13 and 16 respectively after the T20I series in Guyana.

The Tigers will then play a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is in Zimbabwe against the hosts following the tour of West Indies.

The opening T20I will be played on July 30 while the second and third T20Is are scheduled on August 1 and 2 respectively.

The three ODIs are scheduled on August 5, 7 and 10 respectively with all the games to be played in Harare.

Meanwhile, Jalal said that they are thinking of increasing the match fee of Test cricketers so that more players get interested in playing longer-version cricket.

“We’ve formed a working committee and soon we will sit to discuss how we can promote longer-version cricket. Nowadays everyone seems to be interested only in playing white-ball cricket,” he said.

“We’re thinking of increasing the match fee for Test cricketers while we’re looking at other options and see what can be done so that more players get interested in Test cricket,” he said without disclosing the amount of match fee that they’re expecting to increase for the players.
