Kings look to come closer to another BPL title

League leaders Bashundhara Kings will be eyeing to come inches closer to retaining the Bangladesh Premier League title when they take on Chattogram Abahoni Ltd during their round 19 match at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium in Cumilla today.

The two-time champions are currently leading the points table with 45 points and they have a seven-point lead over their nearest opponents Dhaka Abahani Limited.

If Kings win against Chattogram Abahoni, they will have an extended lead of 10 points and will need only a victory from their remaining three matches to clinch the BPL title for the third time since its inception.

Dhaka Abahani lost a big opportunity to minimize the point gap during their last game which they lost to Saif Sporting Club 2-4 after Kings were forced to play a 1-1 draw by Mohammedan Sporting Club.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Abahoni, who are currently placed seventh with 26 points, will try to get some points against Kings at their home venue after losing to Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Dhaka Abahani and Saif SC respectively in their previous three matches.

Kings crushed Chattogram Abahoni by 5-0 goals in their first-leg match at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in March.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal DC will take on Saif SC at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Friday.

The remaining four matches of round 19 will be held after a five-day Eid-ul-Adha vacation on July 14.
