The half-decomposed body of an elderly doctor was recovered from his residence at Boro Maghbazar in the capital early on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Iqbal Uddin Ahmed, 72. Mostafizur Rahman, in-charge of Siddishwary Police Outpost, said the caretaker of the house (Grand Plaza) No. 227 went to fetch service charges from him on Tuesday night.

The caretaker knocked at the door again and again but did not hear any response from inside, he said, adding that the employee informed some other residents of the matter. Later, police were informed.

On information, police reached the residence, broke open the door, and found the body of the man lying in the bathroom. The officer said that after making an inquest report, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

"We are primarily suspecting that he died of old age complications," he said.

The police officer said that the victim had been living in his own flat alone for the last five to six years while his wife, Habiba Begum, and his only daughter were living in Saudi Arabia.

The officer said that the doctor also lived with his wife and daughter in Saudi Arabia, but returned home after suffering brain stroke twice.

Two weeks ago, he talked to his wife and daughter last, he said.
