Lyricist Jahangir Rana makes documentary on Kazi Nazrul

Jahangir Alam Rana is a well known lyricist in Bangladesh and the UK to Bengali music lovers. He is also a presenter in Channel S, a London-base television. Born in Habiganj district under Sylhet division, he has been writing songs since 1988. Many noted singers, including Sabina Yeasmin, Subir Nandi, Syed Abdul Hadi, Andrew Kishore, Shammi Akhter, Tapan Choudhury, Shakila Zafar, Rafiqul Alam, Chandana Majumder and Shubhro Dev have lent their voice to his lyrics.

Jahangir Rana now making a documentary on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam titled ‘An untold story of Kazi Nazrul’. The documentary, which has almost been completed, will depict some untold stories of the National Poet. 

Jahangir Rana said, “I’m making a documentary on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. I’ve written and directed the documentary. We have already done all the shooting and interviews for the documentary. It will be on air soon.”  

The recording of Jahangir Rana-written new song titled ‘Kena Bechar Haat Bazar’ has been completed recently. Popular music composer from Kolkata Abhijit Basu has composed the song while Akash Mahmud has arranged the music of the track. Noted singer Nishita Barua has lent her voice to the track. The song will be used in the film ‘Droho’ directed by Supin Barman. The film is scheduled to be released this year. 

Jahangir Rana generally writes modern and patriotic songs. Besides modern and patriotic songs, Rana has written many Folk and Baul songs. Those lyrics became popular and attracted many singers; therefore his songs spread to all parts of the country hence the general public get to know him and his songs very quickly. Especially, when in 2017 his song ‘Hiya’, rendered by Nishita Barua, published on his own YouTube channel, it became one of the most popular songs of this era.
