Narail OC withdrawn, 4 on remand

Narail OC withdrawn, 4 on remand

In the face of massive protests and outrage, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station has been withdrawn from his workplace while four suspects have been placed on remand in connection with humiliating the principal of Mirzapur United Degree College in Narail.

Narail Superintendent of Police  Prabir Kumar Roy told journalists that an order came from the Khulna DIG's office on Saturday night to withdraw OC Shawkat Kabir.

The OC has been attached to Khulna Range Reserve Force, said the Narail Superintendent of Police adding that the action has been taken for administrative reasons.

On the other hand, a court has granted police permission to quiz the four in their custody for three days in relation to the assault.

Judge Amatul Morsheda of Narail Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court passed the order on Sunday. The four -- Rahmatullah Biswas Rony, Shaon Khan, Monirul Islam and Syed Rimon -- were hauled up in court at 10:00 am.

It may be mentioned that Swapan Kumar Biswas, acting principal of Mirzapur United College in Narail Sadar, was forced to walk wearing a garland of shoes around his neck on June 18 over a post on social media.
