Teacher Murder, Humiliation

Protests erupt in JU

Protests erupt in JU

Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) formed a human chain at the Shaheed Minar of the campus on Sunday protesting the humiliation of Principal Swapan Kumar Biswas and the killing of college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker.

Addressing the event, JUTA President Professor Laek Sazzad Andallah said assault on teachers have now been commonplace all over the country.

"Teenage gangs are being formed in different places. If any teacher or the administration speaks out against them, they assault the teacher and the administration. I don't want to call a student a student who insults or kills a teacher. They are misguided.

“The relevant ministry of the government has to find out why this is happening.  If we want to find a solution, we have to find the source. We must refrain from making vulgar remarks about teachers on social media.”

Other JUTA leaders demanded exemplary punishment for those who are involved in such heinous crime.

JUTA General Secretary Professor Dr. Motaher Hossain conducted the event while Dean of Business Studies Faculty Nilanjan Kumar Saha, Prof of government and politics Shamsul Alam Selim, Prof of chemistry Tapan Kumar Saha, Prof of zoology Monowar Hossain, Prof of environmental sciences Jamal Uddin, Prof of anthropology Mahmudul Hasan Sumon, Prof of mathematics Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and Prof of drama and dramatics Fahmida Akhter also spoke, among others.
