Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday said the Broadcast Journalist Centre (BJC) award will inspire the media to work for public interest in the country, reports BSS.
“It (BJC) is a platform that is playing a pioneering role in various activities including welfare of the members, enhancement of skills, risk management, creation of new opportunities in the workplace and encouragement of journalists in research work. In this case, conferring BJC awards in five categories will inspire the media to work in the public interest,” she said.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mokbul Hossain was present there as special guest, among others.
The second session of the conference was virtually attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud as the chief guest.
Shirin went on saying that the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps including journalist-friendly policy and formation of wage board as the government is determined to ensure a conducive working environment for the media.
Shirin lauded the free flow of information just because of the broadcast saying that everyone can watch the events of the world at home through broadcasting.
There is a close relationship between the practice and development of democracy and the media, she said, adding that so it is very important to provide objective news.
