Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sirajganj Economic Zone (SEZ) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the country.
BREB secretary Md Shamim Ahsan and Sirajganj Economic Zone (SEZ) Limited chief executive officer MK Shahinoor Rahman signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations on Tuesday.
The Sirajganj Economic Zone has received final approval as the first private economic zone in the northern region of Bangladesh. With 1035.93 acres of land on the banks of the River Jamuna, Sirajganj Economic Zone (EZ) Limited chairman Sheikh A Matin at the signing ceremony.
SEZ chairman Sheikh A Matin said that textiles, food processing, medicine factory, Ispat, ship and other industrial hubs to be established at the EZ at the aim of creating 0.5 million employment generation. He also said the EZ will require 25MW of electricity in 2025 and at least 200MW in 2045.
BREB chairman Md Selim Uddin has expressed thanked and gratefulness to the EZ authorities and said the electricity supply to the EZ is one of the top priorities of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. BREB will work to ensure smooth supply of electricity to the Sirajganj EZ Ltd, he added.
