Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that they are looking into the alleged negligence of the administration, as a Narail principal were forced to walk wearing a garland of shoes in the presence of police and other government officials.

He was responding to a question from reporters after a meeting on law and order ahead of the Eid ul-Adha at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Recently, students of Mirzapur United Degree College in Narail and locals protested, as a class XI student posted a picture of BJP leader Nupur Sharma, who was bitterly criticised for her comments on Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on Facebook. Locals put a garland of shoes around the neck of principal Swapan Kumar Biswas, alleging that he approves of the post as he belongs to the same religion.

Protests have erupted in different parts of the country over the humiliation of the teacher. They demanded punishment for the Narail DC and SP.

When the attention of the minister was drawn to it, he said, “Look, a lot of things have happened suddenly. We are really sorry about this. The angry crowd put the garland around his neck.

“It seems there was such a huge crowd that the DC and SP could not do anything.”

About the murder of a teacher in Savar, the Home Minister said, “What can I say about this? If students kill those who teach us, you have to understand how much moral decay we have. Action will be taken in accordance with the law.”

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said this incident has tarnished the human dignity of a person. It is not clear how such an unfortunate situation has arisen in the presence of the police.

The commission has asked the Home Ministry to take legal action against the police personnel responsible for investigating the incident.
