Plan to supply Bhola’s gas to national grid
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid is seen at the signing ceremony of Annual Performance Agreement (APA) at his secretariat in the capital on Sunday.

The government is planning to supply gas from Bhola to national grid using the advantage of Padma Bridge, said State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid.

Now, the Shahbazpur gas field, known as Bhola gas field, produces 63.5mmcfd of natural gas daily. The gas is used by public and private power plants due to the absence of a national grid connection with Bhola.

The Padma Bridge has created new opportunities to supply the gas into national grid as the government has a plan to explore new wells at Bhola North and South.

Nasrul Hamid said any organisation in energy sector would be able to go ahead with it if the company could take the project timely.

“We are facing different problems and incurring losses due to delay in taking projects,” he said.

He was addressing at the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) between the energy and mineral resources division (EMRD) and its agencies and organisations at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.

The state minister said the demand of energy had increased due to the volume of the economic growth. “So the futuristic plans will help to meet the demand of energy,” he said.

The activities of the energy sector got momentum as the APA was being implemented in exploration of wells as well as LNG and oil imports, he said.

Nasrul Hamid thanked the officials for smooth supply of energy to meet the target of the APA.

With EMRD’s senior secretary Md Mahabub Hossain in the chair, the agreement signing ceremony was also attended, among others, by Petrobangla chairman Nazmul Ahsan, BPI director general Md Aminul Islam, Hydrocarbon Unit director general Abul Khair Md Aminur Rahman, GSB director general Mohammad Elius Hossain, chief inspector of department of explosive Mohammed Nayeb Ali, BPC secretary Md Lal Hossain and senior officials concerned.
