Alamgir marks golden jubilee today

Alamgir is one of the most popular film actors of the country. Today is a remarkable day in his acting career because on this very day exactly fifty years ago ‘the evergreen actor’ made his debut in the film industry. 

His fans, friends, co-artistes, and well-wishers from around the world have sent their greeting messages to Alamgir on this auspicious day. 

The actor first stood before camera on June 24 in 1972 for the film ‘Aamar Jonmobhumi’ directed by late Alamgir Kumkum. Before releasing the film ‘Aamar Jonmobhumi’ in 1973, Alamgir had already worked in Sirajul Islam’s film ‘Dossurani’, Azizur Rahman’s ‘Otithi’, Alamgir Kumkum’s ‘Momota’ and Mohor Chand’s ‘Hira’.

Ahead of his Golden Jubilee day in film industry, the actor took part in Maasranga TV’s special programme titled ‘Ranga Sokal’ on Thursday, where he said, “Film is everything to me, I always think about movies. But, after 50 years of my career, I can’t say that I’ve been able to be a good artiste. Because, it is not easy task to become a good artiste.”        

The special episode of ‘Ranga Sokal’ will be aired at 07:00am today. 

Since his debut in film industry, Alamgir has acted in over 225 movies. Among the films, Alamgir has paired up with the popular actress Shabana in 106 films and the Alamgir-Shabana pair is considered the longest pair in Bangladeshi cinema. 

Alamgir starrer notable films are ‘Amar Jonmovumi’, ‘Dassurani’, ‘Chashir Meye’, ‘Joy Porajoy’, ‘Koshai’, ‘Ostad Saagred’, ‘Bhat De’, ‘Ma o Chhele’, ‘Apekkha’, ‘Pothe Holo Dekha’, ‘Ranga Vabhi’, ‘Judge Barrister Police Commissioner’, ‘Ekti Cinemar Golpo’ and others.

He has also worked in television dramas and as a presenter. He has directed film too. In 1986, he made his directorial debut with the film ‘Nishpap’.  

The veteran actor won Bangladesh National Film Award for a record nine times for his roles in the films ‘Ma O Chhele’ in 1985,’ Apekka’ in 1987,’ Khotipuron’ in 1989, ‘Moroner Pore’ in 1990, ‘Pita Mata Santan’ in 1991, ‘Andha Biswas’ in 1992, ‘Desh Premik’ in 1994, ‘Jibon Moroner Sathi’ in 2010 and ‘Ke Apon Ke Por’ in  2011.

Alamgir was first married to lyricist Khoshnur. Singer Akhi Alamgir is the daughter of Alamgir- Khoshnur couple. The actor later married internationally-acclaimed singer Runa Laila.
