Woman held with 8 gold bars at HSIA

The members of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Thursday arrested a woman with eight gold bars weighing 932 grams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital.

The arrestee, named Nurunnahar, was captured after a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying her landed at the airport at around 9:05 am.

According to CIID sources, a woman carrying gold travelled to the capital on the BG-148 flight from Chattogram. The gold entered the country from Dubai.

A CIID team led by Assistant Director Abdul Mannan Majumder took a position at the HSIA terminal.

When the woman was crossing the boarding bridge, the intelligence members intercepted and interrogated her.                During interrogation, she said that she was bearing the gold in her rectum. Then she was examined under an X-ray and gold was found in her rectum.

Later, eight gold bars worth Tk 65.24 lakh were seized from her possession.

She was handed over to the police, and a case was filed against her with the Airport Police Station.
