Bangladesh reported one death and 1,135 infections from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the new infections, the daily infection rate has crossed 13 percent, the highest rate over the past few months. Some 8,536 samples were tested during the period, while 8,552 samples were collected.
The number of daily infection cases crossed five hundred for four consecutive days. Earlier, 874 corona cases were reported on Tuesday while it was 873 on Monday, 596 on Sunday and 304 cases on Saturday.
So far, 29,134 coronavirus infected patients have died and 19,59,209 cases were detected.
Meanwhile, a total of 122 Covid-19 patients were recovered in the meantime, raising the total number of recoveries to 19,06,105. The recovery rate has stood at 97.29 percent.
Meanwhile, a new sub-variant BA 4/5 of Omicron has been detected in the country. A team of researchers at the genome centre of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) detected the new sub-variant named BA.4/5.
They identified the new sub-variant of coronavirus through a partial (spike protein) genome sequencing of the virus collected from the two infected people.
