The ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League will resume today after a 38-day break with two matches of the round 16 to be played at two different venues.

Table-toppers Bashundhara Kings will take on Rahamatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj while Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will host Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the Bashundhara Sports Complex.

Reigning champions Kings are currently at the top position in the points table with 38 points while Rahamatganj are in 10th place with 10 points.

Kings recently failed to qualify for the next round of the AFC Cup but their Spanish head coach Oscar Bruzon said that his side is fully motivated to retain the BPL title.

“We are fully motivated and hungry to retain the BPL title. All the boys practiced together for the last few days,” Bruzon told The Daily Sun.

“Most of our players are fit, fresh and free from injuries this time. Our goal is simple, winning the most important National Club title, the BPL and representing Bangladesh in the international arena,” he added.

The BPL was scheduled to resume on Monday with the same match at the Sylhet District Stadium, but the professional football league committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation rescheduled the fixtures and venues of the rounds 16 and 17 respectively due to the heavy floods in Sylhet division.

The other match between Sheikh Russel KC and Sheikh Jamal DC was also deferred by one day but the venue was kept unchanged.

Sheikh Jamal DC are in third place with 30 points while former champions Sheikh Russel are placed eighth with 15 points.

Sheikh Russel KC coach Zulfiker Mahmud Mintu said that they would try to showcase a good fight against Sheikh Jamal DC at their own den. “Sheikh Jamal are tough opponents, it will be a big match for us. We’re confident to show good performance as the match will be held at our home,” he said.

The BPL was paused after the round 15 was on May 13 due to the fixtures of the AFC Cup 2022, FIFA Friendly and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
