CHATTOGRAM: The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has suspended undergraduate classes and exams till June 21 in the wake of violent clashes between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Tuesday.

Sources said students were asked to leave the dormitories by 5:00pm on the day and the female ones by 10:00am today.

However, the examination and classes of the post-graduation level students will remain continued, said a press release of the university. The decision was made at a meeting of the university’s syndicate chaired by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam in the afternoon.

Mentionable, the two factions of BCL locked in a conflict over returning to the campus by a bus of the university on Saturday.

Since the incident, they locked in clashes, attacked on different dormitories and staged  demonstrations with sharp weapons on the campus in phases.

A group of them also barred movement of buses to and from the university campus on Tuesday creating a tensed situation.

It prompted the university authority to suspend the academic activities, they said.

Additional police forces were also deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident further, they added.
