Yasir ruled out of Windies Test series

Bangladesh suffered a big blow ahead of their two-match Test series against West Indies after middle-order batsman Yasir Ali was ruled out of the series due to a back injury.

The 26-year-old batsman, who played five Tests so far, sustained the injury on the opening day of the three-day practice match against the Cricket West Indies President’s XI at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on June 10.

A subsequent MRI scan revealed discogenic back pain on the lumbar spine.

“Recovery from such injuries takes about two to three weeks time. Therefore, he will not be available for the Test Series,” national team physio Bayjedul Islam said on Tuesday.

The Tigers earlier travelled to the Caribbean without experienced Mushfiqur Rahim, who opted to skip the tour in order to perform Hajj with his family members.

Bangladesh are now likely to go with the remaining options - either Mosaddek Hossain or Nurul Hasan Sohan - during the opening Test in Antigua, scheduled to start on Thursday.

The second Test begins on June 24 in St Lucia.
