Decomposed body of ex-food officer recovered in city

Police recovered the half-decomposed body of a retired food officer from a house at Baganbari in Hatirjheel of the capital.

A team of Hatirjheel police recovered the body of Ashiq Elahi, 79, from a 10-storey building around 10:00 pm on Thursday.

After making an inquest report, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy, said Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station. Sub-inspector (SI) Omar Faruk said that the victim lived on a flat on the 9th floor with his differently abled son Imtiaz Elahi while his eldest daughter Nisrat Sultana lived on the fifth floor of the residence.

Ashiq Elahi was suffering from old age complexities, he said, adding that his death occurred about five to seven days ago.

He said that smelling odour, the neighbours informed his daughter of the matter. Afterwards, on information, police came to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital.

Nazmul Laila, wife of the victim, went to her relative’s house a few days ago, the SI said.

The differently abled son was in the flat, but he could not sense about his father’s death while the daughter did not come to the flat of her father over the last few days, he said.
