Man ‘kills’ widowed sister-in-law in city

A man allegedly stabbed his widowed sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife) to death over land dispute at Jurain of Shyampur in the capital on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nazma Begum, 32, wife of late Abul Kashem, a resident of the area.

Local people caught ‘killer’ Abul Kalam Sentu and handed him over to the police.

Nasir Uddin Ahmed Sohel, brother-in-law of the victim, told the Daily Sun that they are five brothers and four sisters. A few days ago, their brother Kashem died.

His brother Sentu, two sisters and one brother-in-law have been hatching conspiracy to grab all the wealth and properties — house and several shops — of their father for long.

Sentu had feuds with his sister-in-law Nazma over the properties, he said.

“In the morning, Sentu hit Nazma with sharp knife indiscriminately around 9:00am while she was busy along with my wife in our household work in the kitchen, leaving her injured,” he said.

Nazma was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctors declared her dead around 10:30pm.

Bchchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police outpost, said that the body was kept at the morgue of the hospital for autopsy.

Contacted, Mofizul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyampur police station, confirmed the incident.
