3 killed as train rams pickup in Narsingdi

Three people were killed and three others injured as a train rammed into a pick-up van on Amirganj rail crossing in Raipura of Narsingdi district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Sujat Mia, 23, Mohammad Anis, 23, and Shaheen Mia, 22. They all were employees of a mobile phone company.

The injured -- Iqbal Hossain, Shah Jahan and Abdul Jalil -- were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

A Dhaka-bound pick-up van from Radhaganj Bazar of Raipura was hit by a Chattogram-bound Jayantika Express train around 1:00pm, said railway Sub-Inspector Emadul Mehedi.

“Two people died on the spot while four others were injured in the accident,” he added.

Local people rescued and sent the injured to the hospital where one succumbed to his injuries. The bodies were kept at the morgue for autopsy, he said.

Local people said the pick-up van was passing the rail crossing. When the pick-up stepped into the crossing, the train quickly came and hit it.

Imran, driver of the van, said he could not see the train due to torrential rain.

He further said that there was no gateman at the

rail crossing.
