Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz feels that Shakib Al Hasan is the right man to lead the current Test squad.

Mehidy was one of the potential candidates to fill the vacant post after Mominul Haque stepped down from Test captaincy last week following his long stint of poor form with the bat.

However, the BCB decided to pick the seasoned campaigner ahead of Mehidy and the all-rounder claimed that he still has a lot to learn before taking the big role.

“Where there is Shakib Bhai, how could it be? Shakib Bhai led the Bangladesh team for a long time. He is an experienced cricketer. I think he’s the best pick in the current set-up,” Mehidy told reporters during an award ceremony in the capital on Friday.

“It’s important for senior cricketers to take responsibility. I’m now taking lessons from them. It will improve my experience. I’ve a lot of time and I’m not worried about it.

“I always try to perform well. I always think of my performances and team results,” he added.

Mehidy also feels that the upcoming series in West Indies will be challenging for the Tigers but he is also hopeful to get a good result in all three formats.

The Tigers will play two Tests, three T20Is and three ODIs during their month-long tour in the Caribbean, scheduled to start in Antigua on June 16.

“Every series is challenging, When you play an international game whether at home or abroad, it’s very important…We need to play good cricket in order to get a good result,” said Mehidy.
