‘Rise and Shine’ to be staged at Mahila Samity today

Popular theatre troupe BotTala will stage its new production ‘Rise and Shine’ today. There will be two consecutive shows, which will be held at 5:00pm and 7:30pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity in the capital’s Bailey Road area. 

Muhammad Sayeed directed the play, which was written by Italian playwrights Dario Luigi Angelo Fo and his wife Franca Rame. Eminent academic, writer and translator Abdus Selim translated the play into Bangla. Samina Luthfa Nitra has choreographed the play.

Kazi Roksana Ruma will play the lead character in the play and Taufique Hassan, Hafiza Akter Zhuma and Shahnewaj Efte will play chorus.

The story of ‘Rise and Shine’ revolves around the struggles of a young woman. The character is very familiar to us. We see them around us. All women, all mothers, and all working women will be able to relate themselves with this play.

‘Rise and Shine’ was premiered on June 1. The theatre troupe staged four shows of the play on June 1, 2 and 3. Garment workers will be able to watch the show for free by showing their ID cards.
