Domestic help found dead in Addl IGP’s city residence

Police on Wednesday recovered the body of a teenage domestic help from the residence of Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) Abu Hasan Muhammad Tarique at Officers’ Quarters in the capital's Ramna area.

The victim was 14-year-old Mousumi Akhter.

The body of the victim was handed over to her family on Thursday after conducting an autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramna Model Police Station.

The domestic help might have committed suicide, but the autopsy report would detect the exact reason for the death, he said.

According to a police statement, a policeman, who was posted at the residence to ensure the security of the Addl IGP family, came to the residence from outside at around 5:00 pm and found its door locked from the inside. He called Mousumi repeatedly, but she did not respond. Then the policeman informed Ramna Police Station of the matter. A team from the police station rushed to the spot, broke open the door, and found Mousumi hanging from a grill on a balcony.
