A total of 169 gold bars, weighing around 20 kg, were seized from Chattogram and Jashore on Wednesday.
In Chattogram, customs officials recovered 34 gold bars and some ornaments from a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday.
On information, officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) searched for the body of the passenger on the aircraft.
Later, Saiful was arrested with 34 gold bars and some ornaments weighing around four kilogrammes, said CIID Deputy Commissioner (DC) AKM Sultan Mahmud.
The market price of the gold bars and ornaments would be around Tk 3.20 crore.
The filing of a case in this connection was under process.
In Jashore, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held six smugglers with 135 gold bars on Wednesday afternoon.
The gold bars were recovered from the three cars. The registration numbers of the vehicles are Dhaka Metro-Ga-26-3387, Dhaka Metro-Ga-3575 and Dhaka Metro-M-00-7025.
They also seized six mobile sets from the smuggler.
After receiving secret information that the gold was being smuggled by three private cars, members of the BGB took a position at around 1:00 pm on the Jashore-Magura highway in Bahadurpur of Sadar Upazila.
Later, the law enforcers found the cars and recovered 135 gold bars weighing 15.8 kilogrammes. Its estimated cost is over Tk 13.58 crore.
During primary interrogation, they said that they collected the gold bars from the capital and were going to the bordering area of Jashore area to smuggle them to India, said the officer.
He said they might return to the capital with US dollars in exchange for the bars.
Earlier on May 20, the BGB men held a smuggler with 14kg of gold from Boro Kabilpur in Chowgacha upazila in the district.
