Law enforcers have finally managed to crack the mystery surrounding the murder incident in Narail after long seven years.
One of the alleged killers Mokidul Sheikh, 37, was arrested in relation to the murder of Chand Mia in the district on Sunday. He made confession before a Narail court on Monday, said police.
Chand Mia then responded, saying, “Wait. I’m coming.” Saying so, he left the house, but the next morning, his body was found in a mahogany tree garden near his house. Uzzal Sheikh, a brother of the victim, filed a case at Sadar Police Station on May 28 that year.
Sadar Police Station investigated the murder, but to no avail. Later, police submitted a final report before the court on November 11, 2016.
The plaintiff then filed a no-confidence petition. And the court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to look into it. The CID conducted an investigation until 2021, but could not make any headway.
On June 19 last year, the CID submitted a final report, which led the plaintiff to file another no-confidence petition while the court instructed Police Bureau of Investigation to carry out a probe.
On March 7 this year, PBI Jashore unit opened an investigation and identified the killers within less than three months.
He said that he took the issue seriously and continued the probe. During arbitration, Chand Mia was fined, but he continued his relation with the wife of Akidul, which made Chand Mia’s spouse divorce him, said the police officer.
At one stage, Mokidul and Akidul planned to kill Chand Mia. The two siblings along with some others went near the house of the victim and one of them phoned him.
Later, they suffocated him to death and dumped the body at the tree garden.
