Zia’s death anniv observed

Bangladesh National Party (BNP) observed the 41st death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the party, by holding various programmes throughout the country on Monday.

On the occasion, black flags were hoisted and party flags were put at half-staff atop the offices of the party and its associate bodies at 6:00 am on the day.

BNP senior leaders led by party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir placed wreaths at Zia’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Mirza Fakhrul said the ‘unelected’ Awami League government has long been resorting to repression, killing, enforced disappearance and unleashing terror in order to cling to power.

“These days we’ve been observing that they’re again establishing a reign of terror like in the past. They have attacked our Chhatra Dal and our leaders and activists and their houses in different districts,” the BNP leader said.

He said they will overcome all the obstacles and oust the government with the help of people in a ‘democratic’ manner.

To mark the day, the ward units of Dhaka south and north city units of the BNP distributed food and relief materials among the destitute in different parts of the city.

Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged a medical camp at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters. They provided free treatment and distributed medicines among people.

In addition to that, party’s all district, city, and thana units observed the day around the country.
