Prime accused arrested

A woman, who allegedly assaulted a female varsity student for wearing western attire in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi district on May 18, was arrested on Monday.

The name of the arrestee is Marzia Akhter alias Shila Akhter alias Saima, confirmed Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director (Legal and Media Wing) of RAB Headquarters.

"A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) arrested her. She is a matchmaker by profession," said the officer.

"She used several names in several places, but she is popularly known as Shila or Shaila. According to her NID card, her name is Marzia Akhter. Legal action against her is underway," he said.

Earlier, on May 18, the student with her two friends was assaulted at Narsingdi Railway Station for wearing western attire. The arrestee, along with some others, assaulted them.

Earlier on May 20, police arrested another accused, Ismail, from the railway station area.
