Stop fruit business at Gulistan Park

DSCC asks lessee

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Monday ordered the lessee of Gulistan Park, also known as Shaheed Matiur Park, to remove the fruit business from the park.

An order signed by Chief Estate Officer Rasel Sabrin said lessee of the park Md Wali Ullah has violated terms and conditions of the lease by setting up a fruit business inside the park. The business has damaged the environment and beauty of the park.

The lessee has also been asked to use the park for which it was originally designed for.

“If the order is not complied with, legal action including scrapping of the lease will be taken against you,” it said.

The park which is one of the few havens of peace in the densely populated capital was modernised at a cost of Tk 6 crore and opened in 2020.

In November 2021, DSCC leased out the park for about Tk 20 lakh for one year to Dhaka Mohanagar Awami League leader Md Wali Ullah who has also restricted free public access to the park.
