Int’l Day of UN Peacekeepers observed

RANGPUR: The ‘International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers-2022’ was observed through colorful programmes in the city on Sunday, reports BSS.

The programmes included flag hoisting, national anthem performance, rally and discussion.

The theme for the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers-2022 is “People, Peace Progress, the Power of Partnerships.”

Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md Faizur Rahman inaugurated the observance by hoisting the national flag and releasing balloons and pigeons on Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College ground in the morning.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohd. Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan, senior officials of Army, police and RAB-13 were present.

Major General Md Faizur Rahman as the chief guest addressed a pre-rally brief discussion at Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College Auditorium paying due honour to the UN peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in establishing global peace.

Highlighting the significance of the United Nations Peacekeepers Day and the context of Bangladesh, he said Bangladesh’s position in the UN peacekeeping force is glorious.

There are currently 6,825 members of the Armed Forces and Police in 14 countries under the auspices of the United Nations.

He hoped that the role of Bangladesh in the peacekeeping force would be brighter in the days to come.

Later, under management of Rangpur Area Headquarters of Bangladesh Army, a colorful rally was brought out on the surrounding areas from Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College premises abiding by the health directives amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers, officials and members of Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB, Police, Bangladesh Ansar and local administrations, invited guests, teachers and students participated in the rally.
