The Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon on Friday informed that he will sit with the Test skipper Mominul Haque in the coming days to discuss elaborately his batting problems.
“We aren’t much concerned about Mominul’s leadership so far. The problem lies with his batting as he couldn’t score runs,” Nazmul told reporters in Mirpur.
Mominul’s off-form has become a talk of the town in recent days considering he has been out of song since Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against Pakistan in November last year.
In the last 15 innings, the southpaw could only score 176 runs at an average of 12.57 with just only fifty (88) against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.
Meanwhile, the talismanic top-order batsman failed to reach the double-figure mark in the last seven innings since their tour of South Africa in April and he averaged only 3.43 during this time frame after making 24 runs.
Apart from the BCB boss, Mominul also received backing from head coach Russell Domingo on the same day when Bangladesh conceded a 10-wicket bashing against Sri Lanka during the second Test to suffer a 0-1 series defeat.
“There’s no doubt he is feeling the pressure and expectations. The Test captain is always under scrutiny in Bangladesh where the team hasn’t done well in the last 10-15 years. No matter how tough and brave you are, it will wear you down,” said Domingo.
